Self Assessment Final
Starting library 1210 in the winter quarter I thought was not going to be interesting at all to be quite honest. Letting the quarter go by and doing the mandatory assignments, I realized that library class was very helpful and can help me in the long run. Some of the assignments were not difficult at all and some assignments came to be quite complex, but getting help from the professor made it very clear and understanding. All of the assignments was about researching and getting familiar with the library catalogs, searching through websites to find resources and useful information. Unit 1, Part 1 was about exploring the web and also finding information on specific topics. It was very useful with this assignment because it can help prepare for me with research papers. Unit 2 was basically about using a topic and breaking down the keywords to find alternative and more results. It really helped me to think outside of the box because keywords might not exactly fit a description of what your looking for so it is best to have a broad idea of the topic. Unit 3 was basically about finding resources from websites and the school catalogs to research your topic and it also showed me how to find more resources with what I was looking for. Unit 4 got to be difficult for me because I didn't really understand fully how to use the schools additional resources such as the school's library with the databases. The assignment were pretty much to find a topic and try to find it through the different databases that the school library had to offer. Academic Citation which was assignment five was just briefly about citing other people's work. I found both Unit 4 and five kind of a struggle, but got through them and understanding the assignment. Unit 6 was pretty much about authors, students, libraries, and etc. being treated fairly by being equal on using someone's resources and how should people be accommodated. Overall library was very helpful and interesting. I also learned new things and got to work the databases. I can come to what I learned in the long run when it comes to research papers and find needed information.

Category: Clean Energy
1) Where did you start and why?
I started typing in my category "Clean Energy" on the library catalog worked my way down on the list to the World Wide Web.
2) What sources did you select and why?
The sources I selected was the Library catalog and the World Wide Web because I am familiar with those sources.
3) Discuss all the steps you took and why did you follow that order?
All the steps I took was first searched Clean Energy in all of the sources that was listed to see where I can find the best results and description of Clean Energy. I followed that order because I wanted to make sure that I can find something in every source about clean energy.
4) What search terms and search techniques did you use and why?
I just looked up Clean Energy because it seems to be the most popular keyword, but I also typed in Environmental clean energy, and clean energy environment. I just stuck with the one I was given which was just Clean Energy since I found more results and more topics.
-How did you evaluate and revise your search as you went along?
I evaluated my search as I went along by looking at topics that were more relevant to what I was looking for and actually clicking on the article to see if it had anything to do with my search.
-How did you change your search as a result of the various steps you took?
I didn't really change my search I just went along with it because I was already find things that are related to my category.

Evaluating my sources on the WWW and the library catalog is that they both gave good information and on the Library catalog gave me information about past hearings between the government and their strategies of improving the environment and the WWW on epa.gov gave some good facts about how and why clean energy started and what causes the world to call for clean energy.
7) How would you formulate your topics and narrow your search?
I would formulate and narrow my search by key wording specific questions or specific topics about clean energy.

2) What are the major difficulties in resolving the unhealthy environment?

Two additional databases I would use to find additional information is Newspapers and Academic search premier because they would also have news and facts about the environment and clean energy.

Unit 6 Assignment
1.discuss how the author, the publisher, the faculty member, the library, and the students can be accommodated
* The author, publisher, faculty member, the library, and students can be accommodated by being able to have access to the materials, of course it wouldn't be free, but students, faculty members should be free. The author is paying the publisher to publish the materials so either way it goes they are both getting paid and the library should have access to the materials for people to view.
2.How can a fair arrangement be achieved?
* Fair arrangement can be achieved by making an agreement between the parties so it can be settled on who has to pay. Authors and publishers should make a certain amount of pay from libraries and authors should give a certain discount for libraries because libraries are letting people check out the publishing for free.
3.What are the challenges in creating a fair arrangement for everyone?
* The challenges of creating a "fair arrangement" is that something might be fair to one party, but not the other. There will be disagreements and both parties have to do a compromise that whether one party doesn't like it or not.
1.How can a balance be achieved between protecting privacy and meeting the needs of national security?
* Library has all the rights it needs to have books on the shelves. Their are public notices for people's rights.
2.How did you react to the list of challenged books (were you surprised, for example)? Do you think some books should be banned or should all books be freely available? Why?
* It was shocking to view through the list of challenged books. I am familiar with many of the titles and have read some of them in junior high and high school. I don't think all books should be banned because it doesn't have to be in someone's interest. Books should all be freely available because if most books had the almost the same reasons for the challenged books then their wouldn't be many books on the shelves.
3.How have your overall ideas about information ethics changed or not changed after completing this unit?
* My overall ideas about ethnics changed after completing this assignment because it was a lot of information that I didn't know about and it really help as I went along this assignment.
